More about El Salvador Finca Noruega

Description

Finca Noruega is a 25-hectare farm founded in 2017 by Los Naranjos Coffee. They are located near the town of Apaneca. This farm is currently part of the Renacer
Project, a coffee development center for small- and medium-sized producers working to improve coffee quality in El Salvador. They also have earned several Cup
of Excellence wins.

Harvest typically runs from January through March. Picked coffee heads to the mill where classification of coffee beans is made ahead of processing. Drying process is performed on raised beds to avoid the risk of obtaining an uncontrolled or undesired fermentation.

Los Naranjos Coffee carries out 4 quality control cuppings, 2 cuppings before being offered and 2 subsequent cuppings after the coffee has rested. All
cuppings look to measure consistency or improvement in quality of the coffees, grown by Los Naranjos Coffee.

Country and Region Red Caturra (microlot)

Known as “the land of volcanoes,” El Salvador is the smallest Central American country (roughly the same size as New Jersey), but its reputation among specialty-coffee-growing regions has grown larger-than-life, especially since the early 2000s. It is often said that the Cup of Excellence competition, which came to El Salvador in 2003, was the beginning of the new “wave” of interest in Salvadoran coffee, shining the first light on some of the special varieties the small country grows.

The Apaneca region is a jewel of El Salvador’s coffee industry, combining volcanic soil, high altitudes, and meticulous farming to produce some of the world’s finest coffees. Its sweet, complex cup profiles and strong heritage make it a favorite for specialty coffee lovers globally. If you're seeking a coffee with bright acidity, sweetness, and complexity, this region is unmatched.

Process: Natural

Natural-process specialty coffees are something of an experiment in El Salvador, but they are increasing in popularity. The coffee is generally picked ripe and sorted for quality, then placed on raised beds or patios to dry for a month or more.

Variety: Red Caturra (microlot)

A naturally occurring dwarf mutation of Bourbon that was discovered in Minas Gerais, Brazil (1915–1918) and later selected for cultivation (1937).
